We are excited that you are considering Columbus Technical College! Below you will find all the information you need to successfully apply and be admitted.

CTC operates in accordance with State Board Policy: 6.2.1. Admissions and TCSG Procedure: 6.2.1p.

Admissions Policy

Columbus Technical College is committed to helping every student reach their maximum potential. All students applying to CTC must meet the standards for acceptance in order to be admitted to a degree, diploma, or certificate program.   

In accordance with the Statement of Equal Opportunity, the Technical College System of Georgia and its constituent technical colleges will not discriminate in admissions. 

Admission to a CTC college involves the evaluation of applicants’ prior academic experience and can include assessment for postsecondary readiness.

Admissions Requirements

  1. Required Academic Criteria 
    1. To be admitted by all Technical Colleges, applicants must satisfy one of the six academic readiness paths below:
      1. High school graduates must submit an official high school transcript, including graduation date, that reflects the student has met the attendance, academic, and/or assessment requirements for the state’s Board of Education or equivalent agency. 
        1.  High school diplomas/transcripts must be issued from a state recognized secondary institution.  
        2. Applicants with diplomas from secondary schools located outside the United States must have their transcripts translated and evaluated for equivalency by an approved outside evaluation organization. 
        3.  High school Certificates of Attendance or other certificates, credentials, or documents where the student did not complete all required coursework or testing required for a high school diploma in that state are only recognized for programs not requiring a high school credential or equivalency. 
      2. Submission of an official transcript reflecting the student has passed an examination or completed a program the state recognizes as the equivalent of a high school diploma (e.g. GED, HiSET, Career Plus HSE). 
      3. Exceptions to requirements a. or b. include those students seeking enrollment into an approved basic workforce certificate that does not require a high school diploma, or high school equivalency for admission as listed on Attachment 6.2.1p.a2 Program Placement Information.
      4. Submission of an official transcript from one or more previously attended postsecondary institutions (accredited by an accepted accrediting agency) reflecting the successful completion of a minimum of 12 semester or 18 quarter credit hours of coursework at the post-secondary level or successful completion of a college level math and English course. 
      5. Applicants who were home schooled who attended an accredited program must submit annual progress reports or a final transcript for the equivalent of the homeschooled student’s junior and senior years. The final progress report or transcript must include the graduation date; 
      6.  Applicants who attended a non-accredited high school or home school must submit an official transcript and one of the following: 
        1. Official scores from an assessment instrument meeting college established required minimums per Attachment 6.21a2 
        2. Successful completion of 12 hours of college coursework for credit that appear on an official high school transcript 
    2. Service members of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, or Navy may submit an official copy of their DD Form 214 or other official documentation of military service indicating high school graduate or equivalent.
    3. Exception: Presidents of Technical Colleges may waive the high school diploma/high school equivalency requirement for those pursuing a high school equivalency who are otherwise eligible to enroll in a specific program of study.

APPLICATION TYPES AND PROCEDURES

Once you are in the Enrollment Portal, please be sure to select the Application Type that best fits your situation. Please click the Application Types below for more details on their associated admission procedures.

New First Time College Student

Students who have not attended college before or who attended another institution – not CTC – as a Dual Enrollment student in high school and earned fewer than 12 hours would need to complete the simple steps below:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee
  2. Submit an official copy of your high school or high school equivalency transcript
    1. High School Graduates 
      • Submit your official high school transcript showing the graduation date. The high school must be accredited by an agency included on the TCSG approved accreditation list. The transcript can be mailed or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope. Electronically delivered transcripts are preferred.  Please submit to admissions@columbustech.edu  
      • Submit official AP scores via Collegeboard.org 
      • Note: High school Certificates of Attendance or other certificates, credentials, or documents where the student did not complete all required coursework or testing required for a high school diploma in that state are not recognized for admission purposes. 
    2. High School Equivalency (GED, HISET etc.) Graduates
       
      • Submit your high school equivalency transcript showing passing scores on all sections of the test 
      • Official high school equivalency transcripts can be mailed or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope. They can be requested electronically at TCSG’s Adult Education website.
    3. Home School (at an accredited program) Graduates
      • Submit annual progress reports or a final transcript for the equivalent of the homeschooled student’s junior and senior years. The final progress report or transcript must include the graduation date 
    4. Home School (at a non-accredited program) Graduates 
      • Submit an official transcript and one of the following: 
        • Official scores from an assessment instrument meeting college established required minimums per Attachment 6.2.1p.a2 Program Placement Information.
           
        • Successful completion of 12 hours of college coursework for credit that appear on an official college transcript
    5. Exceptions 
      • Exceptions to i, ii, iii, and iv above include those students seeking enrollment into an approved basic workforce certificate that does not require a high school diploma or high school equivalency for admission, as listed in Attachment 6.2.1p.a2 Program Placement Information
  3. Submit proof of lawful presence and proof of Georgia residency to qualify for in-state tuition 

Alabama residents from Lee, Chambers, Russell, and Barbour counties may qualify Reciprocity, which grants the in-state tuition rate. 

Transfer

Columbus Tech welcomes students who have previously attended other colleges or universities. If you have ever attempted or completed college courses at another institution, you are a considered a transfer student and would need to complete the simple steps below:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee 
  2. Submit an official copy of your high school or high school equivalency transcript. 
  3. Submit proof of lawful presence to qualify for in-state tuition. View the list of acceptable lawful presence documents to learn more. 

Transfer applicants who submit an official transcript from a regionally accredited college or university that shows one of the following do not need to submit their high school transcript:

  • Completion of an associate degree or higher do not need to submit their high school transcript 
  • Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter credit hours of coursework 
  • Completion of degree-level math and English courses

Dual Enrollment

Students currently enrolled in a Georgia high school or home school that wish to earn college credit should complete the simple steps below:

  1. Apply for Dual Enrollment at Columbus Tech 
  2. Complete the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application  
  3. Have a parent/legal guardian approve the Student Participation Agreement  
  4. Email high school transcript and (if applicable) qualifying scores to: dualenrollment@columbustech.edu  
Re-Admit (Returning Student)

Students who attended Columbus Technical College previously are welcome to return to resume their studies! Students who completed Dual Enrollment at CTC or students who have not attended in two or more consecutive terms of enrollment should apply as returning students and would need to complete the simple steps below:

  1. Submit Returning Student (Re-Admit) Application (free of charge) 
  2. Follow instructions in the Application Portal 
  3. Check your email and text messages for updates from Admissions.  We may need you to re-submit some Admissions Checklist items. 
Transient Student

Students currently attending another college/university and wish to take one or more courses at Columbus Technical College with approval from their home college/university would need to complete the simple steps below:

  1. Complete the application for admission and pay the $25 non-refundable application fee
  2. Submit a transient letter from your home institution to admissions@columbustech.edu.  A new transient letter is required for each additional term
  3. Submit proof of lawful presence and proof of Georgia Residency to qualify for in-state tuition 

Students currently enrolled at another regionally accredited institution may enroll as a transient student on a space-available basis in order to complete coursework to transfer back to their home institution. 

Special Admit (non-degree seeking) Student

This special status admission category is designed for students who are not seeking a certificate/diploma/degree but who desire credit for coursework in a specific program. The following admission parameters apply under this classification:

  1. Submit the Application for Admission and pay the one-time $25 application fee 
  2. Submit Lawful Presence documentation and proof of Georgia residency to be eligible for the in-state tuition rate
     

Please note the following: 

  • Special status students are not eligible for financial aid. 
  • Courses selected by special status students are subject to specific prerequisite requirements. 
  • The number of hours taken as a special admit student in no way waives the requirements of the regular admission process. 
  • Students may enroll in classes on space-available basis.

Once you complete and submit the CTC Online Admission Application, you can still use the same username and password to access a dynamic Enrollment Portal based off of the information you put on your application. The Enrollment Portal will allow you to view and upload required documents for admission, sign up for Orientation, and view various student resources around campus.

Be sure to click the “Next Steps” tab in the Enrollment Portal for a list of things you should do once you are admitted to the college.

Military Veterans

Columbus Technical College honors military service and offers affordable, accredited programs—ranging from certificates to degrees—that can be completed quickly and prepare students for successful civilian careers in fields like health sciences, business, and technical services.  
 
For students who are returning to the college after military service, Columbus Technical College will promptly readmit a service member with the same academic status as you had when last attending the college or accepted for admission to the college.

Readmission of Service Members

Request for transcripts to be sent to Columbus Technical College

Most schools (K-12 and postsecondary – college or university) utilize services like Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse to send transcripts electronically. Instructions for creating an account and ordering a transcript through Parchment are here.  Instructions for using the Clearinghouse are here.

Mini-mester

A mini-mester is a “miniature semester” that takes place midway through a semester.  At Columbus Tech, the accelerated mini-mester will run about 7.5 weeks.  Even though the terms are shorter, they earn the same credit hours as a traditional, full-length semester.  In other words, it’s a fast-track format.  These courses are only available to CTC students who are currently enrolled for less than 12 hours and for new, already accepted students.  Search the CTC schedule using the Advanced Search Option and the Part of Term search to view mini-mester classes.

Verification of Lawful Presence in the United States

Effective January 1, 2012, all students applying for in-state or and out-of-state tuition waiver must provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. The following documents will serve as proof of lawful presence in the United States and documentation will be required before you are eligible for consideration of in-state tuition, or an out-of-state waiver:

  • Students who file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and are eligible for federal student aid under Title IV will have their lawful presence verified as part of the FAFSA process. 
  • A clear copy of an original or certified U.S. Birth Certificate showing the student was born in the U.S. or a U.S. territory, A U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (DS-1350) or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240). The copy must very clearly show the raised or written seal to be acceptable. 
  • A U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570). 
  • A U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561). 
  • A current U.S. Passport. 
  • Unexpired Georgia and select out of state Drivers licenses and state ID cards can be accepted under certain conditions. It must be a Real ID and not contain any of the verbiage in the chart below. If the copy received has the top portion of the card cut off the document will not satisfy lawful presence. 
  • A current military ID (service member only, not dependent). Documented using the Confirmation of Review of Military ID Worksheet – A photocopy is not acceptable. 
  • A current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS form I-151 or I-551). We require both the front & back sides of your Permanent Resident Card to be submitted. It must not expire before the first day of class of the term the student will start classes. 
  • Students admitted on an F, J or M Visa will have their lawful presence verified through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). 
  • Students admitted on any other Visa will have their lawful presence verified through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program

Any student who cannot be verified as lawfully present in the United States is not eligible to be considered for in-state tuition, or an out-of-state waiver, regardless of how long he or she has lived in Georgia. In addition to being lawfully present in the United States, students must meet the in-state tuition requirements as outlined in TCSG Board Policy and Procedure V.B.3 to warrant an in-state classification. Students that are initially classified as out-of-state and successfully petition to have their residency changed to in-state also have to meet the verification requirement.
