Nearly 60 Columbus Technical College students will take center stage at a major scholarship event this Thursday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m. in McCaulley Auditorium at the Columbus Technical College campus on Manchester Expressway. For the first time in the 56-year history the college, Columbus Technical College Foundation, Inc. is hosting what they intend to be an annual celebration of scholars and donors alike. This year’s red-carpet style scholarship affair has been dubbed “REACH for the Stars” and will take on the look and feel of the Academy Awards.
From emphases on nursing and healthcare to paralegal, business, trade/technical programs, and even philanthropy, an estimated $90,000 in scholarships and funding assistance is slated for distribution. Also on hand will be several donors from our community; their generosity does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
“The donors come from all walks of life,” said David Fletcher, director of institutional advancement. “We have retired healthcare professionals, attorneys, individuals who worked in or represent the trade and technical skills arena, civic leaders, and more. They all see the value in building and supporting an educated work force through Columbus Technical College. It is our hope that this event will kick start even more community interest in providing assistance for our students.”
Over the last fiscal year, the Columbus Technical College Foundation provided:
- $12,225 in faculty and staff grants, allowing for professional development and/or continuing education opportunities;
- $10,085 in emergency grants to students who were facing a financial situation that may have prevented them from staying enrolled at Columbus Technical College; and
- A total of $45,141 for student scholarships and assistance.
We hope you can join us Thursday morning; refreshments will be served following the event.
